Scaling Limits of Waves in Convex Scalar Conservation Laws Under Random Initial Perturbations

چکیده
We study waves in convex scalar conservation laws under noisy initial perturbations. It is known that the building blocks of these waves are shock and rarefaction waves, both are invariant under hyperbolic scaling. Noisy perturbations can generate complicated wave patterns, such as diffusion process of shock locations. However we show that under the hyperbolic scaling, the solutions converge in the sense of distribution to the unperturbed waves. In particular, randomly perturbed shock waves move at the unperturbed velocity in the scaling limit. Analysis makes use of the Hopf formula of the related Hamilton-Jacobi equation and regularity estimates of noisy processes.

Invariant Manifolds and the Stability of Traveling Waves in Scalar Viscous Conservation Laws
The stability of traveling wave solutions of scalar, viscous conservation laws is investigated by decomposing perturbations into three components: two far-field components and one near-field component. The linear operators associated to the far-field components are the constant coefficient operators determined by the asymptotic spatial limits of the original operator. Scaling variables can be a...
متن کاملL2-contraction for Shock Waves of Scalar Viscous Conservation Laws
We consider the L-contraction up to a shift for viscous shocks of scalar viscous conservation laws with strictly convex fluxes in one space dimension. In the case of a flux which is a small perturbation of the quadratic burgers flux, we show that any viscous shock induces a contraction in L, up to a shift. That is, the L norm of the difference of any solution of the viscous conservation law, wi...
متن کاملBehavior of periodic solutions of viscous conservation laws under localized and nonlocalized perturbations
We establish nonlinear stability and asymptotic behavior of traveling periodic waves of viscous conservation laws under localized perturbations or nonlocalized perturbations asymptotic to constant shifts in phase, showing that long-time behavior is governed by an associated secondorder formal Whitham modulation system. A key point is to identify the way in which initial perturbations translate ...
متن کاملContractivity of Wasserstein Metrics and Asymptotic Profiles for Scalar Conservation Laws
The aim of this paper is to analyze contractivity properties of Wasserstein-type metrics for one-dimensional scalar conservation laws with nonnegative, L∞ and compactly supported initial data and its implications on the long time asymptotics. The flux is assumed to be convex and without any growth condition at the zero state. We propose a time–parameterized family of functions as intermediate a...
متن کاملConvergence rates to traveling waves for viscous conservation laws with dispersion
In this paper we investigate the time decay rates of perturbations of the traveling waves for viscous conservation laws with dispersion. The convergence rates in time to traveling waves are obtained when the initial data have different asymptotic limits at the far fields 7N: This improves previous results on decay rates. r 2002 Elsevier Science (USA).
